Donna Renfroe
The news bug first bit Donna while writing for The Auburn Plainsman at Auburn University. She received a B.S. in broadcast communications from Florida Southern in Lakeland and began her radio career in 1978 as a college intern with Lakeland’s WVFM. She also worked in television production for Clearwater Christian station WCLF before moving to Los Angeles in 1980.
After living in southern California for a couple years, Donna moved back to family and friends in Lakeland in 1982 and worked for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office as the agency’s public information officer (1984-86), at the news assignment desk for WFLA-TV Channel 8 (1986-87), and as a freelance news correspondent for ten years at Lakeland’s WCIE beginning in 1986.
When WCIE was sold in 1996, she became a staff writer for the Tampa Tribune in its Brandon news bureau and also wrote for the Winter Haven News Chief. She joined the news department for WONN and WLKF as a news anchor in 2007.
Donna was let go in July 2020 due to the caronavirus pandemic's impact on station revenue.
