Joyce Robbins
Joyce started with Lakeland’s WONN as a part-time secretary in 1968 and, by 1973, had moved up to station manager under new owner Joe Garagiola. When Garagiola sold the station in 1976, she decided not to stay on with the new management and left, taking a job instead with WVFM across town as traffic director.
For the next four years, she not only worked her radio job, but also took college courses to earn a nursing degree. She went on to enjoy a lengthy career with Lakeland Regional Medical Center and, at the time of her retirement, was head of the hospital’s oncology unit.
