Bob White
Bob was WONN’s Program Director for six months in 1967, coming from WROD, a Top 40 station in Daytona Beach where he was also PD and an on-air personality. He left Lakeland to join Orlando’s WHOO where he became Production Director and an on-air personality.
Already a deejay in Gary, Indiana before deciding to move south from his native Chicago, Bob attended Broward Community College in Ft. Lauderdale in 1963 and 1964, majoring in Journalism and Speech. He also made stops at radio stations WRBD in Pompano Beach and WUWU in Gainesville.
Bob’s professional experience extended to other interests, too. He is a baseball fanatic and takes great pride in his announcing and color commentary for the University of Florida baseball team and the Jacksonville Suns, an AA minor league team of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Perhaps his most memorable experience was calling the play-by-play action for the Gators’ 1995 SEC Championship season and his trip to Omaha, Nebraska for the College World Series.
Big on community involvement, Bob works with and supports the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the United Way of Alachua County, and the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce. He is a member and officer of the Exchange Club, Past President of the Gainesville Advertising Federation, serves on a number of area Boards, including the American Heart Association and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Alachua County, and is a former board member of the University of Florida Quarterback Club.
Today (2005) Bob is out of radio and oversees the day-to-day operational activities of Bob White Productions, Inc., a full service Gainesville advertising agency which he established in 1969. He makes his home in the Gainesville area, is married and has three children.
