Mike Parrish

Mike has spent almost his entire life in Lakeland. Born in Augusta, Georgia, he and his family moved here when he was only six months old.

While still attending Lakeland High School, he was hired as a cameraman for Community Cablevision, whose studios were in the basement of the WONN building. It was there in 1969 that he caught the attention of station owner Duane McConnell, who offered him an engineering position.

Mike stayed with the station until 1976 and became one of its part time deejays during his last two years there. In addition to his duties at WONN, he also did engineering work for WPAS in Zephyrhills.

Today (2013), the former volunteer fire chief for the Highland City Fire Department (1988 to 1999) handles the eleven-state southeastern area as a sales rep for Rohn Products, a manufacturer of towers (including the one at WONN).
