WPRV - A History
 |
WPRV-AM 1600 Wauchula – Brush Broadcasting (Jerald A. Brush, president/GM/chief engineer and his mother, Georgia M. Brush) signed on Wauchula’s WPRV (The Voice of the Peace River Valley) in 1964. It was a 500-watt AM with offices and studios located at the transmitter/tower site on County Barn Road.
According to Broadcasting magazine, WPRV left the air circa 1972 pending FCC approval of a merger with Wauchula’s WAUC-AM 1310. While it’s not clear what kind of merger actually took place, WPRV’s 1600-AM frequency was deleted and its general manager (Jerald Brush) became PD and chief engineer for WAUC.
Other names in WPRV history include James M. Hanchey (sales manager-1964), John Williams, Jr. (announcer-1964; news director-1966), Georgia Brush (sales manager-1964; PD-1968), Robert Hanchey (announcer-1964), Rose Marie Brush (PD-1964), Dan Reid (promotions 1964-65), Mike Mitchell (news director-1964), Robert V.
