WWTK - A History

WWTK-AM 730 Lake Placid – WWTK began as a construction permit for WLPF, a Lake Placid 250-watt daytimer owned by Charles Esposito. Highlands Media Company, Inc (Jim Johnson, president) purchased the permit, modified it to 500 watts day and 340 watts nights, and changed the call sign to WWTK to reflect its TalK format.
WWTK was built by Johnson and Charley Castle using a two-tower directional antenna, and first licensed in 1989. Studios were located at 3750 U.S. 27 North in Sebring. In 1995, the station was acquired by Casey Communications (John Casey) and, in 1997, by the Cohan Radio Group (Peter Coughlin).
Today (2019) WWTK operates from offices and studios on Highway 27 in the Fairmount Cinema Square in Sebring.
Other names from WWTK history include Duane McConnell (VP Highlands Media-1989), Karen Sasnow (GM-1992), John Meder (sales manager-1992), J.J. Kale (PD-1992), Barry Foster (news director-1992), and Jim Johnson (chief engineer-1992).
