WPBB - A History

WPBB-FM 98.7 Holmes Beach -- On February 1, 2017, Beasley Broadcast Group’s 98.7 WBRN-FM became adult contemporary WPBB-FM, branded b98.7. The 50,000-watt station’s studios are located on Executive Center Drive in St. Petersburg; its transmitter and tower site are off Park Boulevard in Seminole.
To coincide with the new call letters, WPBB also launched a new morning show, hosted by Tampa Bay’s top-rated AC morning duo Chadd & Kristi (Mr. & Mrs. Thomas), formerly with Magic 94.9 WWRM.

In May 2017, the FCC granted WPBB a construction permit to move its tower site to an area just south of Gandy Boulevard on San Marcos Boulevard, near Derby Lane. The move would reduce the station's power from 50kw to 47kw.

When morning team Chadd & Kristi departed on December 5, 2018, many expected a format change was imminent, and it was. On December 26, 2018, WPBB flipped from adult contemporary to 80's/90's classic rock as 98.7 The Shark.
