WHBN - A History

WHBN-AM 1160 St. Petersburg – WHBN, a 10-watt station that operated from the spring of 1925 to late 1927, was owned by the First Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg. The station’s studios and transmitter were headquartered at the church, located at the corner of First Avenue North and Third Street.

When WHBN went on the air in March 1925, its broadcasts were heard on 1160kc. Programming moved to 1260kc in January 1926 and then to 1010kc in June 1927. Reference books make no mention of the station after October 1927 so it most likely left the air shortly thereafter and its license deleted.
