WKLV - A History
WKLV-AM 1490 Bradenton – Biscayne Broadcasting (Tony Lupo, president and GM) acquired Bradenton’s WTRL in 1988 from Highlands Broadcasting (Al Moll, president) and flipped it to Classic Hits WKLV. During its short run, the station was also known as Coast 1490. The one-kilowatt AM’s studios, transmitter, and tower were located on the Memorial Pier, overlooking the Manatee River in Bradenton.
Cameron-Reese Broadcasting of Bradenton, Inc., acquired the station’s license in 1992 and the calls switched to WJRB.
Other names in WKLV history include Gil King (PD-1989), Derrick Stevens (music director-1989), Walter Pieper (news director-1989), Allan Hollar (chief engineer-1989), Rob Sanchez (music director-1990), David Belmondo (news director-1990), and David Renzi (chief engineer-1990).
