WWLF - A History
WWLF-AM 680 St. Petersburg – After selling WWBA-FM in 1981, WWBA, Inc. (Ed Winton, president) flipped one-kilowatt daytimer WWBA-AM from beautiful music to a nostalgia format as Life 680 WWLF. Studios were relocated from 9721 Executive Center Drive to 9549 Koger Boulevard in the Koger Office Center in St. Petersburg. The tower/transmitter site was behind Derby Lane racetrack on Gandy Boulevard.
The WWLF calls changed to WLFW in 1982.
Other names in WWLF history include Bill Dutcher (GM-1981), Dave McKay (PD-1981), Bob Higby (news director-1981), and Ed Gorman (chief engineer-1981).
