WLTQ - A History
WLTQ-FM 92.1 Venice – In 2005, Clear Channel shifted the format and calls of its 92.1 WDDV (The Dove) to its AM-1320 and launched in its place 92.1 Lite FM WLTQ. However, the “lite” format eventually gave way to Hot AC and was branded 92.1 MYfm in 2010.
On October 31, 2011, the outlet began stunting as 92.1 Santa FM and playing uninterrupted Christmas music. On December 26th it became 92.1 The Coast and flipped to an adult contemporary format.
The 11,500-watt WLTQ operated out of the company’s Sarasota cluster at 1779 Independence Boulevard and maintained its transmitter and tower site near Nokomis, off US 41 (N. Tamiami Trail) at SR 681.
In early 2016, iHeartmedia (formerly Clear Channel) replaced WLTQ to return Sarasota’s 106.5 WCTQ back to its original frequency of 92.1 FM.
Names from WLTQ history include Randy Wanek (sales manager-2006), Tim White (chief engineer 2006-2009), Jeff Lynn (PD-2006), and Joanne Jelinek (traffic manager-2008).
