WAVE - A History
WAVE-FM 102.5 Sarasota – Cosmos Broadcasting successfully petitioned the FCC in 1983 to switch the calls of WSRZ, its 100,000-watt Sarasota A/C FM, to WAVE so they could more closely represent the station’s image and be promoted as The Music Wave 102½.
WAVE-FM had a short run before Cosmos changed the calls again and it became WHVE The Wave 102.5 in 1986. The music format remained essentially the same – a mix of jazz and adult contemporary, except there was a greater emphasis on jazz programming.
Susquehanna Radio acquired WHVE from Cosmos in 1988.
Some names from WAVE history include Joseph Ademy (GM-1986), Steve Huntington (PD-1986), Michelle Tellone (music director-1986), Karen Hipp (promotions manager-1986), Norm Hale (news director-1986), and Ted Miofsky (chief engineer-1986).
