WBSB - A History
WBSB-FM 96.1 Dade City – B96 WBSB went on the air in 1994 from studios on the second floor of the First National Bank of Pasco County on U.S. 301, south of Dade City. The 3.8-kilowatt station was owned by Dade City Broadcasting Inc. (David M. Zeplowitz, president) and played a contemporary format, primarily songs from the 80’s and 90’s aimed at 25 to 54 year-old listeners.
In 1995, Carl Marcocci (Dunedin’s WGUL-AM 860 and New Port Richey’s WGUL-FM 105.5) acquired WBSB. The station relocated to 35048 U.S. 19 in Palm Harbor and became WGUL-FM when the call letters and Music Of Your Life format (a simulcast from WGUL-AM) on 105.5 moved to 96.1.
Other names from WBSB history include Marianne Vorhies (GM-1994), Steve Michaels (operations-1994), Dave Terry (chief engineer-1994), Louis Z. Kaplan (GM-1995), and Pat Underwood (sales manager-1995).
