WXYB - A History
 |
WXYB-AM 1520 Indian Rocks Beach – Angelatos Broadcasting (Sotirios Angelatos, president/GM/sales manager) acquired WXYB-AM in 1993. It was a one-kilowatt daytimer, and operated from 27873 U.S. 19 in Clearwater.
Today (2021) the 600-watt Class-D non-directional station programs a Greek format (Greek Voice Radio) and sells brokered time to advertisers and groups like Tampa’s Hillsborough Community College, which regularly purchases time for “Hawk Radio,” its college radio endeavor.
WXYB is a sister station to New Port Richey’s AM-1500 WPSO. Both broadcast from 107 Dunbar Ave., Suite K, in Oldsmar. Because it shares 1520 kHz with clear channel stations WWKB in Buffalo, NY and KOKC in Oklahoma City OK, the FCC has licensed WXYB for daytime operation only.
Also in WXYB history are Angelos Angelatos (PD-1994; operations-1997), Darlene Angelatos (operations-1994; public affairs director-1996), John Stortz (chief engineer-1994), Jim Johnson (chief engineer-1995), and Angel Angelatos (GM-2001).
