WSSR - A History
WSSR-FM 95.7 Clearwater – Mix 96 WMTX became Clear Channel’s adult contemporary Star 95.7 FM WSSR – “Today’s Music Alternative” – in 1998. Two years later, it snagged two nominations in Billboard/Airplay Monitor Awards’ adult top 40 categories – one for station of the year and another for station program director Scott Chase. Management ended the format’s five-year run by flipping it to mainstream urban WBTP The Beat in 2003.
Other names from WSSR history include the morning show teams of Carmen & Chris (Carmen Connors and Chris White) and Jeff & Jenn (Jeff Thomas and Jennifer Jordan).
