WJQB - A History

WJQB-FM 106.3 Spring Hill – Carl Marcocci’s WGUL-FM 106.3 became WJQB in January 2005
when it switched from Music Of Your Life to True Oldies 1063, using the syndicated and satellite-distributed True Oldies programming, hosted by national radio personality Scott Shannon.

WJQB was previously located in the Fountains Shopping Center on U.S. 19 North in Palm Harbor, but today (2009) operates from 13825 U.S. 19 in Hudson. Owned by WGUL Inc. and licensed to Spring Hill, WJQB broadcasts a non-directional pattern with 25,000 watts from a transmitter/tower site east of U.S. 19 on Highway 50 (Cortez Boulevard) near Weeki Wachee.

Memorial Day 2014, WJQB dropped Scott Shannon's True Oldies format to become Hits 106 (same oldies music, new name) and a week later flipped their call letters to WGHR (Greatest Hits Radio).

Other names in WJQB history include David Marcocci (GM-2005), Richard Spires, Steve Schurdell (managing partner-2009), Denny Bateman (production director), Bobby O’Shea (host of the “Doo Wop Shop”), Trevor Joe Lennon (mornings-2008), Carl E. “Cem” Maier (general sales manager), ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Boone (mornings, music director-2009), Chelle Fontaine (mornings, production-2014), and Dino D'Addario (afternoons, operations, production director-2014).
