WPOI - A History
WPOI-FM 101.5 St. Petersburg – Cox Radio’s Jammin’ Oldies WFJO became The POInt WPOI in 2002. The station's original slogan, "The Best of the 80's...and More," reflected a music format that included tracks from the late 70's and early 90's, in addition to the hits of the 80's.
On July 1, 2011, 101.5 dumped its 80’s format for a hits-focused approach as Hot 101-5 and played 10,000 songs in a row, commercial and talk-free, the entire month.
Today (2011), one hundred kilowatt WPOI operates from offices and studios in the Cox
FM cluster (WWRM, WHPT, WDUV, WSUN, and WXGL) at 11300 Fourth Street North in St. Petersburg. Its tower is located in Hillsborough County off Rhodine Road in Riverview.
Some names in WPOI’s history include Jeff Callahan (PD Nick Sanders-afternoons), Dick Reins, Gina Riley, Keith Conners, Corey Dylan (mornings), Joel Elliot (afternoons-2008), Jess Andrews (evenings), Brian Black (weekends), Howard Turri (VP/GM), Bernadette Van Osdal (general sales manager-2008), and Keith Lawless (Tampa market manager-2011).
