WWRM - A History
WWRM-FM 107.3 St. Petersburg – In 1988, Ed Winton’s successful beautiful music WWBA-FM (The Bay) became soft adult contemporary WWRM (WaRM 107.3). In a frequency switch to 94.9 (formerly WLCY-FM and WYNF-FM) in 1993, WWRM was re-licensed to Tampa and branded Magic 94.9.
WWRM tweaked it music format slightly in 2001 to a more edgy adult contemporary mix, though still calling it “soft and contemporary”). Today (2008) the 100,000 watt Cox station operates from studios in St. Petersburg.
Past and present WWRM personalities include Ann (Shepherd) Kelly (mornings, then afternoons), Chadd and Christi Thomas (mid-days, then mornings), Dayle Greene (host of “Spectrum”), Greg Evans, Hal Lamb (news), Jack Miller, Jack Shell, Jane Friend (nights, then afternoons), Marti Ryan, Read Shepherd (mornings), Rick Chandler, Mark Jackson (mid-days), Paul Ciliano (operations) and Scott Painton.
