Bill Hennes
Bill grew up in Detroit and landed his first part-time radio job in 1960 as a deejay with WBRB in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He developed a character called Wild Willy in 1963 for his 7 to midnight shift at WIBM/Jackson, Michigan, and took it with him to stints at Flint’s WTRX and WTAC, and Louisville’s WKLO.
Following his first programming job at WNHC in New Haven, Connecticut, Bill became the genius behind legendary Top 40 powerhouse CKLW Detroit/Ontario in the mid 1970’s. From there, he went on to Chicago’s WMAQ, Tampa Bay’s WLCY (1975-76), and stations in Indianapolis, Knoxville, and Philadelphia.
In 1981, Bill founded Bill Hennes and Associates, a full-service broadcast consulting firm. Since then, he has consulted hundreds of stations and is best known, perhaps, for his successes with CHR and country stations. He also operates All About Country, an online trade magazine that connects country radio and music professionals.
In addition to his work as an on-air personality, program director, and broadcast consultant, Bill has been an account executive, sales manager, national program director, general manager and station owner.
