Ed Heffington
‘Edward E’ was the on-air name used by Ed Heffington, mornings in 1963 at Tampa’s 10,000-watt rocker, AM-1110 WALT.
‘The Man With No Last Name’ (as he jokingly referred to himself) was from Hopewell, VA, and started in radio in 1953. After a break for college and the Army, he re-joined his hometown station for a couple years before moving to Tampa.
Ed spent most of his career at stations in Virginia (WPVA/Petersburg, VA and WKBY/Chatham, VA) and Raleigh, NC (GM at WRNC and on-air/sales with WPJL. In the early 1970’s, he headed operations for an 8-station cluster in the Radio Smiles Group.
But Heffington’s work history isn’t all radio. He’s worked for two advertising agencies and was in area sales for Prentice-Hall Publishing. He’s also been involved in Christian ministry in the Raleigh area, was an instructor/director for CLC Paralegal Institute there, and for over 20 years was a computer and general studies instructor at ECPI University.
Ed retired at the end of 2010 and today (2018) is involved in a Christian ministry part-time.
