Marla Stone
Marla (Stonecipher) began her radio career as a USF intern with WYNF-FM’s (95ynf) research department in 1987. A year later she was working full time doing traffic reports for Metro Traffic. With her sights set on finding a deejay job, she landed early mornings in 1991 at 98 Rock WXTB, and eventually moved up to morning drive as a cast member of the station’s “All Request Morning Show.”
However, radio wasn’t the only job that kept her busy. She also became an entertainment reporter for the local CBS affiliate, WTSP-TV Channel 10, from 1993 to 1995, the stadium announcer for 1993’s Monsters of Rock and Monster Truck Rally events at Tampa Stadium from 1991 to 1996, event center announcer for the Tampa Bay Lightning, and stage announcer for the Zephyrhills Livestock Rock Festival for seven years.
Marla left Tampa Bay in 1998, but returned briefly in 2000 to do evenings at Thunder 105.5 WTBT.
Armed with a BA in mass communications/visual communications from the University of South Florida, she has had experience in all phases of specialty program production, messaging on-hold, infomercial narration and other voiceover work. In 1999 she won awards from the Salvation Army (“Person of the Year”) and the Colorado Broadcasters Association and, in 2000, an award from the American Cancer Society.
