Charlene Mathies
Charlene was a secretary at WLCY-AM 1380 in the 1960’s and portrayed “The Weather Chick,” a sexy, dumb blonde character on Roy Nilson’s afternoon show. The Fairfield, Iowa native graduated from St. Petersburg High School and St. Petersburg Junior College, and attended the University of Florida.
Much of the material she used on the air and in person (she often made personal appearances in character at various station-sponsored events including Star Spectaculars) was written by mid-day “Swingin’ Gentleman” Dave Archard. In early 1966, she moved to New York, became a Playboy Bunny, and a member of the Copacabana chorus line. She also appeared in several Broadway shows and the 1972 Woody Allen film, “Play It Again, Sam.”
Charlene passed away February 16, 1984 in New York City at the age of 47.
