Carl J. Marcocci

Carl was from a small town outside Pittsburgh and went on to become the CEO and controlling owner of Florida Nature Coast stations WJQB-FM 106.3 (The True Oldies Channel), Hot A/C WXCV-FM 95.3 (Citrus 95),  Classic Hits WXOF-FM 96.3 (96.3 The Fox), and WINV-AM 1560 in Inverness. Beginning his career as a disc jockey at local dances, Carl was eventually hired at WEEP/Pittsburgh where he went by the name of Jack Armstrong. He bounced around from city to city at a number of stations including WMID/Atlantic City and WYRE/Annapolis, Maryland, where he was PD, and also served for a time in Korea working for military radio. In the 1970’s he bought Clearwater’s WAZE-AM 860 and started to accumulate other stations, not only in Tampa Bay, but also in Georgia, South Carolina, and Maryland.

Carl passed away December 21, 2006 from an apparent heart attack following a company Christmas party in Spring Hill. He was 68.
