George Gainey

George was Uncle Frank Scott, the midday guy on WCWR, Tampa Bay’s first oldies station, in 1969 and 1970. He also worked  with WLCY and Z16 WILZ using the moniker Jack Armstrong, and was known on the air as J.C. McCay at Cypress Gardens’ WGTO.

Gainey left his on-air work to become a southeastern regional sales rep for Pepper-Tanner, the jingle company in Memphis. After coming off the road, he settled in Tampa and took his own life in an apparent suicide.
