Jane Friend
She probably never met “Bad Bad Leroy Brown” while living on the south side of Chicago but that’s where Jane was born and raised. However, everything changed for her after she visited Tampa in 1975. It was then that she decided to make this area her home.
Jane has always loved music and as soon as high school was over, she became a mobile deejay. She loved spinning the records and getting people up to dance. That love for music also played an important part in her decision to get into the radio business in 1985 at WPAS in Zephyrhills.
In 1987 Jane came to Plant City’s WPLA to work mid-days. During her two-year stay there she also took on duties of the Program Director for a while and even pulled morning drive. In 1992 she moved to WWRM and hosted Lights Out Tampa Bay while on the night shift before moving to afternoon drive. More recently she has hosted Tampa Bay Acoustic Evenings on WBBY 107.3 “The Eagle” – Tampa Bay’s Classic Hits station.
Today (2006) Jane has gone home – back in her hometown of Chicago where she goes by the name Kathleen (Kat) Turner. But she’s still a mobile DJ who does emcee and hosting work for weddings, corporate events, and themed parties, as well as commercial voiceovers.
