Hal Murray
Hal came to Tampa’s WINQ in 1967 after hopscotching across America from some of America’s top stations like KDWB in Minneapolis, KFWB in Los Angeles, WNEW in New York, WNOE in New Orleans, and KQV in Pittsburg. Nicknamed “The Emperor”, his on-air style has been described as almost vaudevillian – an extremely animated, personality-driven individual who made it fun to listen to radio.
At WINQ, Hal pulled mornings and also hosted the station’s buy, sell, and trade show, Tradio, which was heard Monday thru Saturday mornings at 9:15. He also worked at other Florida stations including WILZ in St. Petersburg Beach, WINZ in Miami, and WKIS in Orlando. His career not only included his radio work, but also television and the stage in such plays as Harvey, Born Yesterday, and The Seven Year Itch.
Hal passed away in 1988 at the age of 67.
