Dave & Diane Buerger

The Buergers headed up Vantage Broadcasting and, in 1972, bought Winter Haven’s WINT-AM 1360 from Norman O. Protsman (Suwannee Broadcasting). They made some changes in the station during their years of ownership. Two of the first changes were switching the call letters to WZNG (Zing Radio) and the music format from top 40 to oldies.

In 1975 they built a new studio and office building at the tower site on Dundee Road. Two years later, the station’s city of license was moved from Winter Haven to Cypress Gardens, enabling it to increase power to 5,000 watts days and 2,500 watts at night.

In 1983 The Buergers sold WZNG to Altair Communications and the call letters changed to WYXY. Dave and Diane continue to live in Polk County (2009). Dave is a Human Resources Manager for Lowe’s in Auburndale and Diane is a practicing attorney in Bartow.
