Bob Stanton
Bob was a pioneer TV sportscaster who came to St. Petersburg from New York in 1956 to direct the sports programming for city-owned WSUN Radio and TV. His time spent there was relatively short. The following year he moved across the bay to become night news manager and anchor at WFLA-TV Channel 8.
Stanton was a graduate of and former football halfback for the University of Miami in the late 1920’s. After graduation, he worked with NBC for 14 years, scoring a number of ‘firsts,’ including coverage of the first World Series, Army-Navy football game, Davis Cup tennis match, and boxing events.
Prior to his move to Tampa Bay, the veteran broadcaster was the announcer on NBC-TV’s “Robert Montgomery Presents” program.
