Brian Holmes
Brian decided early on that his career path was going to be a fun one, that he wasn't going to be miserable in a regular 9-to-5 job that he hated. He was 15 years old at the time he got his first radio internship answering request lines and doing other odd jobs for The Power Pig WFLZ in 1989 and 1990.
His first on-air Tampa Bay gig was in 1991 for St. Pete’s Star 16 WRXB (the only white guy on an all-African-American staff). In 1993, following a year jocking at a couple Tuscaloosa, AL stations, he returned to WRXB and spent much of the 90’s working between there and WTMP. For a couple years during this period he was a freelance writer and wrote feature stores for national radio trade magazines.
The Largo High School grad pulled nights at Oldies 106 WSRZ in Sarasota as well as OM chores for sister station WSPB between the years 1995 and 1999. He was also an on-air reporter/producer for Metro Traffic and Clear Channel’s Total Traffic (Airwatch America).
From 2001 to 2005, Brian worked weekends on the air for 93.3 WFLZ and as a board op for 970 WFLA, then left Tampa Bay for the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach area, stations in Mississippi, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan, as well as a stint with XM Satellite Radio.
On Christmas Eve 2019, Brian suffered a massive stroke and was admitted to the ICU unit at a hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, about an hour south of the station he was currently working for, B103.9 WBZX in Big Rapids.
