Terry Casey

Terry was born in Jacksonville, FL and began playing voiceover guy, announcer, and TV anchor when he was six years old. He was determined to make it happen one day. Back then, a stick mic made a great handheld microphone. Soon that gave way to spoons and new roles as a deejay spinning records and a TV weatherman brandishing a yardstick to track imaginary fronts that swept across a large, tattered map of the U.S. taped to the wall.

Then he got his first tape recorder – a tiny reel-to-reel – and recorded EVERYTHING, driving his parents nuts and annoying his little brother. Finally, when he was old enough, he got a job at the local grocery store and his first break – announcing that “prices on bananas are being slashed” over the store’s sound system.

Terry graduated from Seminole High School in 1966 and landed his first real broadcasting job with St. Pete’s WSUN radio writing and voicing copy while attending St. Petersburg College (1966-68). In 1972, he was appointed news director, succeeding Hugh Brown, who moved up to GM.

After getting his degree from the University of Florida, he made the jump to a career in television and became an award winning news anchor and reporter with Atlanta's WSB-TV (1976-79), Tampa's WTVT (1983-86), WCBD-TV in Charleston, SC (1987-93), and WJKS-TV in Jacksonville, FL (1993-96). His many awards include three local Emmys, six-plus Laurel awards, the DuPont-Columbia Award for Excellence, two TELLY’s, as well as awards from the Associated Press and United Press International.

After a lengthy broadcasting career, Terry settled in Jacksonville Beach and launched his own business, Terry Casey Voiceworks, in 1997.
