Jim moved to St. Petersburg, Florida with his family in 1945 and attended schools there, graduating from St. Pete High in 1954 and St. Pete Junior College two years later. His lengthy broadcasting career began at WTSP in January 1953 when he was appointed record librarian. Shortly thereafter, he hosted his first show, “The All-Night Club,” and then “Suncoast Hit Parade.”
In 1957, he moved across the bay to WFLA to host two shows, mornings' "Gulf Coast Serenade" and "Today's Hits" in the afternoon. In 1960, he joined New York’s WMCA as one of the original Good Guys, went on to work for WCBS and WNBC, and was a news anchor for ABC-TV and several Seattle TV stations.
In addition to voicing radio spots and podcasts for the American Association for Retired Persons (AARP), the San Francisco native did radio/TV work for the Voice of America. He also had a cameo role in the 1974 film “McQ” with John Wayne, played a Seattle TV anchorman in 1983’s "War Games," and was a fill-in for Paul Harvey in the early '80s.
Jim passed away in 2007 due to complications of a stroke at the age of 71.
