WBBY - A History

WBBY-FM 107.3 St. Petersburg – Cox Radio’s all-70’s Coast 107.3 WCOF became soft rock 107.3 The BaY WBBY in 1999. Studios were located at 11300 4th Street North in St. Petersburg. The tower site was on Burbank Road in Oldsmar.

When 100-kilowatt The Bay went on the air, it made a number of promises to its audience: to promote the music over contests and more music mornings, to announce the title and artist of every song played, to not talk over songs, and to have no loud deejays.

In 2003, Cox flipped WBBY to a classic hits format. The following year, it retained the format, but was re-branded 107.3 The Eagle WXGL.

Names in WBBY history include Jay O’Connor (GM-1999), Dottie Cesario (sales manager-1999), Keith Lawless (nat’l sales manager-1999), Chuck Beck (PD-1999), Roz Clark (chief engineer-1999), Annie Sommers (middays/PD 1999-2004), David K. Jones (2001-2004), Chantal L. Jeanrenaud (sales manager-2003), Deb McLean (nat’l sales manager-2003), and Jane Friend (host of “Tampa Bay Acoustic Evenings”-2006).
