Ken Skelton

Ken became interested in radio as a student in his native England and, at one time, even worked for the BBC.

He started with WDAE in the 1920’s when the station’s studios were in the Bay Isles Building on Davis Islands. That stay turned out to be short-lived, however, and he soon left to take an announcing job in Orlando. When he returned to Tampa in 1931, he again joined WDAE and was appointed chief announcer (today he would be called a program director). This second association with the station became a much-more lengthy one, and lasted for thirty-three years.

Skelton remained at the helm of WDAE’s programming department until 1964, and passed away in 1971.
