James Wayman
James Wayman was Pepper Lipsinx, the guy who did late afternoons on Sarasota’s Surf Row Radio WYND in 1967. In 1968, he moved to Pinellas Park’s WFSO and became its PD and music director, and then moved on to WLCY in 1969 to work nights from 6 to 11 P.M. Back then, it was not uncommon to hear him host the station’s late night talk show, “Open Mike,” on evenings when regular host Harvey Sheldon took a night off.
In 1970, the former Pontiac, Michigan native left Tampa Bay and headed to WRKT in Cocoa Beach. A year later, he could be heard in afternoon drive at WLOF in Orlando. After a brief stop at WMYR in Ft. Myers in 1972, he left Florida for the remainder of his radio career, except for 1985 when he spent a short time with WVHG-FM in Labelle, Florida (between Ft. Myers and Lake Okeechobee).
Today (2011), Wayman lives near the Oregon border in Crescent City, California.
