Dennis Crandall

Dennis (Dennis Crabtree) was from Portage, Wisconsin. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Mass Communications in 1954, he worked a couple years at WBEV, a small radio station in Beaver Dam, before moving back to Madison and joining NBC affiliate WIBA in 1956.

In 1968, he and his wife and 4 kids packed their bags and moved to Florida, where he joined the news department at WDAE. In 1976, he found a new home at WTAN in Clearwater, serving there as news director and talk show host the first seven years, and GM the final two. His last news and talk gigs were for WPLP and WSUN in the late 80’s.

Dennis passed away March 4, 2011 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. He was 78.

In addition to his radio work, he owned his own travel agency, served as the Largo Police Department’s Public Information Officer, did a local cable TV show in conjunction with the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office, and taught journalism in the Mass Communications department of the University of South Florida.
