WSRZ - A History
WSRZ-FM 102.5 Sarasota – In 1979, Cosmos Broadcasting (J. Law Epps, president) acquired Sarasota’s 100,000-watt AOR outlet WQSR from Sarasota Radio Company (Edward A. “Ted” Rogers, president) and relocated the operation from Bahia Vista and Beneva Road to 4306 N. Tamiami Trail. Three years later, the calls flipped to WSRZ when Cosmos instituted a hybrid AOR/CHR format (which included some jazz) and a new moniker, The Music Wave. In 1984, the calls became WAVE The Music Wave 102½.
Other names in WSRZ history include Kip Kedersha (evenings & music coordinator 1979-1981), Charles Jones, Jr. (GM-1982), Joseph Ademy (sales manager-1982), Dain Schult (PD, afternoons-1982), Ted Miofsky (chief engineer-1982), Michelle Tellone (music director-1983), Jim Doyle (promotions-1983), and Nina Cunningham (news director-1983).
