Ronnie "Night Train" Lane

A 1974 graduate of Paris, Tennessee’s Henry County High School, Ronnie Lane Payne received his BS in Journalism and Mass Communications from Murray State University in 1979. That same year, he began a broadcasting career at an AOR station in Evansville, Indiana, serving almost six years there in both morning and afternoon drive and as PD and music director.
In 1985, Lane took his talents to the night shift at Tampa’s Q105 WRBQ, where he picked up the nickname “Night Train.” Later, he moved to afternoons and became the station’s program director and music director, surviving three ownership and several format changes along the way.
He decided to pursue his dream of becoming an on-air sports personality in 2001 and accepted the position of assistant program director and afternoon show co-host (with former Buc Scot Brantley) on Sportsradio 1010 WQYK. He was also active during football season with the Buccaneer Radio Network, covering the sidelines and locker room.
In 2005, Ronnie began a stint on XM Satellite Radio, hosting Major League Baseball Live nationwide. After leaving that post, he joined former Bucs receiver Mark Carrier in 2010 to co-host afternoons on Tampa Bay's ESPN 1040 WHBO, but the gig folded when he was let go in early 2012.
Since late that same year, Lane has been a sports anchor for 620/WDAE.
