Tramonte Watts
Tramonte Watts’ early work included time on the air in his hometown of Akron, Ohio with WAUP-FM (the University of Akron’s radio station) and WCUE. After moving to Florida, he pulled stints at several stations along the east coast, including Ft. Lauderdale’s Y-100, before moving to Tampa Bay as Q105’s late night jock.
In 1990, when he and some other on-air people were let go by the Q (a result of stiff competition from “The Power Pig” WFLZ), he landed a couple part-time radio gigs just to make ends meet – locally with Power 93 WFLZ itself, and Orlando’s 102 Jamz. He also sold advertising for “The Buccaneer” newspaper.
Then, shortly after this traumatic upheaval in his professional life, Watts was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. He was only 38 when he passed away in February 1991.
