JR Evans
JR started in radio in 1962 on WCVS in his hometown of Springfield, Illinois. Later career stops included WLAV in Grand Rapids, MI, WYSL in Buffalo, NY and WBNS in Columbus, OH.
His first Tampa Bay gig was while an RTV student at St. Pete Junior College in 1965-66 working with 1250/WDAE, which had just switched from traditional network programming to a new adult contemporary music format. After leaving the area for a spell, he returned in 1984 to Sun Country WSUN before adding other stations in the market to his resume, 100.7 WUSA, WISP 98.7, U92 WYUU, and 25 years (1993-2018) at Tampa Bay's country giant WQYK, which may have set a record there for uninterrupted employment.
Today (2021), JR is safely retired in Bradenton.
