Ron McKenney

Ron was from Hornell, New York, about 55 miles south of Rochester. During his Tampa Bay radio career, which began in 1959, he was with St. Pete Beach's WILZ (sales manager and on-air personality Ron King), Clearwater’s WQXM during its Stereo 98 days, and Tampa’s WFLA before opening his own advertising and public relations firm (McKenney and Associates) in 1978.   

Also active in local politics, he was a St. Pete Beach city commissioner from 1970 to 1976 and 1982 to 1984, and served two terms as the town’s mayor from 1986 to 1989 and 1998 to 2000.

McKenney passed away in 2001 at Northside Hospital & Heart Institute in St. Petersburg at the age of 67.
