John Alexander
John Alexander was a radio station owner and former vice-president and general manager of WFLA Radio and TV. Although born in Minneapolis, he grew up in Lake City, Minnesota. During his school years, he delivered the local newspaper and served as a lifeguard at Lake Pepin Beach.
He went on to attend Northwestern College of Speech and Drama in Minneapolis and entered the radio business in 1935 as an announcer and program director at stations in South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, Washington, and Utah. Eventually he found his way to Tampa Bay and WFLA in the late 50’s.
John retired in 1981 after 46 years in broadcasting and spent his latter years in Zephyrhills. He passed away in May 2003 at the age of 87 shortly after being diagnosed with kidney cancer.
