Gary Ballinger
Gary received his B.A. in speech and mass communications with a minor in political science at Indiana State University. His step into the radio business was with WLCL in Lowell, a small community in the upper northwest corner of the state not far from Chicago. Frustrated with the direction his career was going, he moved to Florida in 1981 and was out of radio for awhile until then-PD Brian Phoenix hired him as music director at Magic 96 WMGG.
The Marion, Indiana native also worked with WMTX, WFLA, Q105, WWRM, WTAN (program director), overnights for three years at Classic Rock 97.9 WKRL, mid-days on 102.5 The Wave WAVE, full-time swing at Star 95.7 WSSR (1997-98) and nights on Jammin’ Oldies JO 101.5 WFJO (1998-99), plus some time with Metro Traffic.
In 2000, he left Tampa Bay to work at stations in Hattiesburg and Biloxi/Gulfport, Mississippi. After moving back to Florida a couple years later, he settled in Sebring to work mornings on the Cohan Radio Group’s Lite 105.7 WWLL and afternoons with its country outlet, OJ 99.1 WWOJ before moving on to Lakeland’s 97 Country WPCV and Tampa Bay's US 103.5 WFUS.
Today (2008), Gary works for Newman Media in Lake City (FL) doing mornings on Oldies 1340 WDSR and mid-days for Mix 94.3 WNFB.
