"The SportsChix & Friends" radio show was originally called “Hooters On the Radio” when it premiered middays on WSUN AM-620 in 1994, hosted by Fez Whatley with Hooters girls Lynne Austin, a former Playboy Playmate (“Miss July 1986”), B.L. (Brenda Lee), and model Heather Young.
Austin, from Plant City, was once married to Philadelphia Phillies catcher Darren Daulton and, in addition to Playboy, graced the covers of numerous national magazines. She also co-hosted “Hooter’s Nite-Owl Theater” for eight years in 13 markets, including Tampa Bay, where the program was seen on WTOG-TV Channel 44.
B.L. was from Mississippi. She began her career as an intern with Ron Bennington and Ron Diaz on their nationally syndicated “Ron & Ron” radio show in 1988. Heather, born and raised in Miami and the daughter of a Miami Dolphins executive, also modeled for Playboy and appeared in several music videos, movies, and TV commercials.
“Hooters On the Radio” moved to middays on Brandon's AM-760 WBDN in 1996 and then to 1010 Sports WQYK-AM in 1999 and retitled “The SportsChix & Friends”. The girls and their show left the air in June 2009 but, by that time, B.L. and Heather were gone and the Chix were down to just a duo – Austin and newcomer Leslee Lacey.
