Dave Onsted

“Morning Dave” claims Wisconsin as his home state, although when pressed he’ll admit having actually been born across the river in Minneapolis in Minnesota Vikings country. Starting in radio in 1969 at an AM daytimer in his hometown of Eau Claire, he worked his way through the University of Wisconsin from 1973 to 1978 at AM Top 40 WISM in Madison. His on-air career included stops in the Winston-Salem/Greensboro market at WKZL and WRQK in 1978-79, and at suburban Washington’s 14ZYQ and Z104 in Frederick, MD, Baltimore’s WLPL, and country WPKX/WVKX in Washington, DC.

In 1982, Dave moved back to Wisconsin and into the sales side of broadcasting, general management in 1989, and a piece of a small group of stations operating in Wisconsin and Colorado in 1991. Prior to what he loosely calls “retirement from managing” and moving to Florida in 2004, he spent eight years (1996-2004) as GM of WNAX, South Dakota’s farm radio blowtorch covering better than 200,000 square miles across five states in the Midwest.

Air and commercial production work have always been his first loves in radio and a compact, small-market operation like the Cohan Radio Group’s five-station cluster in Sebring gave him the opportunity to do both. Today (2008), Dave does mornings on Cohan’s adult contemporary Lite 105.7 WWLL-FM.
