Dan Sanborn

Born in Flushing, New York in 1916, Dan and his family moved to Miami in 1924 and two years later, to Lakeland. After graduating from Lakeland High School, he accepted a job at the Lakeland Evening Ledger where he became a reporter and the newspaper’s only photographer.

After his discharge from the Navy in 1946, Dan opened Sanborn Photo Service in downtown Lakeland. In 1960, he was persuaded to join the news department at WONN, and two years later was named News Director, a position he held until he retired in 1982.

Dan continued to make Lakeland his home with his wife, Elsa, until he passed away in 2001 at age 85.
