Alan Archer
Alan began his broadcast weather forecasting career in 1974 as a weatherman for WFLA Radio and TV. In 1979, he founded a weather consulting and forecasting company, Continental Weather Corporation, and headquartered it in Lutz just north of Tampa. Continental provides detailed customized weather forecasts and analyses from its state of the art facility for radio and TV broadcasters, marine and aviation interests, and many areas of private industry and government around the world. Services are disseminated via live and recorded audio links, telephone, fax, and e-mail.
Archer is a certified consulting meteorologist, a member of the American Meteorological Society, and has 11 meteorologists on staff tracking data from a variety of sources including NOAA in Maryland. He tailors this information to a client’s needs and basically becomes a house meteorologist who’s on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When Hurricane Ivan headed toward the Gulf of Mexico in 2004, he fed storm updates to Disney Cruise Lines in the Bahamas, radio stations in the Caribbean, and Verizon executives in Tampa. The company also provides law firms and insurance companies meteorological consulting services for weather-related accident/injury cases.
Florida stations who utilize Alan Archer’s weather services include WPRY-AM in Perry and the five stations of the Cohan Radio Group in Sebring (FM’s WWOJ and WWLL, and AM’s WJCM, WWTK, and WITS).
