Ken Hart

Ken Hart was a native of Long Beach, New York who became a music composer and publisher, an actor on the New York stage, the founder of the Kentucky Coal Journal (an industry newspaper), a reporter for the New York Times, a lobbyist, a campaign manager and, after moving into radio, a disc jockey, station manager and station owner. In the mid to late 1960’s, he was general manager of Sarasota’s WYND-AM 1280 for a time and also held a similar position in Kentucky with WLAP-AM in Lexington and WFKY-AM in Frankfurt where he was also a co-owner.

With his hometown friend, Bert Gold, who was serving with him in the Army in 1942, Hart wrote “Dogface Soldier,” a song later recorded by Russ Morgan’s orchestra for the motion picture soundtrack of the 1955 film “To Hell and Back” starring Audie Murphy.

Hart died at his home in Frankfurt, Kentucky following a long illness on February 12, 2006. He was 88.
