WJYW - A History

WJYW-FM 100.7 Tampa – Rounsaville Radio’s 100-kilowatt beautiful music WAVV flipped its calls to WJYW (JoY 101) in 1978. Studios were located downtown at 101 N. Tampa Street with sister station WDAE-AM.

Unlike WAVV, Schulke Radio Productions provided WJYW’s beautiful music format.

Rounsaville sold WJYW in 1980 to Gannett, which flipped the station to adult contemporary W101 WIQI in 1982.

Other names in WJYW history include Ken Cinco (operations-1978; music director-1982), Ralph B. Johnson (president of Rounsaville Radio-1980), Frank J. Celebre (GM-1980), Rosie Harker (sales manager-1981), Richard Forschner (news director-1981), D.F. Strubbe (GM-1982), John O’Neill (sales manager-1982), Scott Farrell (PD-1982) and Dale Namminga (chief engineer-1982).
