WAKS - A History

WAKS-FM 100.7 Tampa – Gannett’s adult contemporary 100.7 WUSA became Jacor’s Kiss FM WAKS in late 1996.

The WAKS calls and Kiss FM moniker were dropped in 1999 and the station re-branded Mix 100.7 WMTX – the new calls resurrected from Clearwater’s  Mix 96 WMTX which flipped to The New Star 95.7 WSSR two years earlier.

Names from WAKS history include longtime Tampa Bay favorites Mason Dixon, Bill Connolly, and JoJo Walker from the morning show (1997 to 1999),  Mike Jennings (late-nights 1997-99), and Dan DiLoreto (general manager).
