WAKS - A History
WAKS-FM 100.7 Tampa – Gannett’s Kiss FM WUKS flipped its calls to Kiss FM WAKS around 1997-98.
When Jacor acaquired 100.7 in 1999, the station was re-branded Mix 100.7 WMTX – the new calls resurrected from Clearwater’s Mix 96 WMTX, which had flipped to The New Star 95.7 WSSR two years earlier.
Names from WAKS history include longtime Tampa Bay morning show favorites Mason Dixon, Bill Connolly, and JoJo Walker, Mike Jennings (late-nights), and Dan DiLoreto (general manager).
