Kane

The man simply known as Kane grew up in the snow country of Danbury, CT. At the age of 16, he began an internship with KC101 WKCI-FM in New Haven and, from that time until graduating from high school in 1995, drove an hour each day for the opportunity to intern for free.

After graduation, he was accepted at Syracuse University's School of Visual and Performing Arts where he intended to pursue a career in advertising and design. At some point along the way, he volunteered for Z89, one of two radio stations operated by the University. After trying to refine his on-air personna during his freshman and sophomore years, he was “asked to leave” the station in June of 1997 because he said the word "ass" on the air. Even though he was told “this is not New York” and “you can’t do that kind of thing in radio,” he was on the air across town doing nights on Hot 107.9 WWHT-FM a month later.

In 1998, Kane accepted an offer from Tampa’s WFLZ to do nights. That gig ended two years later when he left to become PD for XM Satellite Radio’s top 40 channels. His second stint with the station began four years later when he returned in 2004 to do afternoons. After PD Jeff Kapugi departed in 2006, management didn’t have to look far to find a replacement and made him their first choice.

In 2007, he left for DC to host mornings at Hot 99-5 WIHT-FM, leaving him to do Tampa’s afternoon show from his basement home studio. When morning  man MJ Kelli left in early 2012, an agreement was reached with Clear Channel to move his show from afternoons to mornings. His highly successful syndicated show, “Club Kane,” is also heard on the station each Sunday night.

The accomplished artist, aviation enthusiast, and radio personality has been a recipient of the Radio Music Award for CHR Air Personality of the Year (2004) and A.I.R. Awards for Best Evening Drive Show and Best New Talent. In December of 2008, “The Kane Show” was awarded the prestigious FMQB national award for Best Morning Show.

Kane, whose real name was Peter Deibler, passed away March 6, 2021 after a long illness. He was 43.
